Summer 2010!

Each summer, the boys at Casa Miani go home to families for vacation and return after a month to take part in the summer program at the center. Usually the program lasts about 4 weeks and is filled with activities inside Casa Miani and outside the center with other children. This summer was another eventful and enjoyable year for all the children and staff!

To begin the month long program, we were blessed with the arrival of Brother Joseph Mallari, crs. Brother Joseph came to spend 4 weeks with us in Casa Miani. During his stay, he taught the boys and staff how to bake different kinds of bread and cookies and how to make different crafts. Other activities included computer and literacy tutorials, swimming lessons, sports, and group-work activities. The weekends were also filled with excitement as the children were able to participate in a variety of different events. The 2 most exciting weekend activities for the boys was the choir's trip to Siquijor to sing at a wedding and the elementary boys' camp in Valencia together with boys from Little Children of the Philippines (another local center in Dumaguete). The children also participated in a 2-day sports festival with the different childrens organizations around Negros Oriental, hiked up to Twin Lakes (Lake Balinsasayaw), and made friends with Korean students staying and studying in nearby Valencia. What a great summer! Below are some of our pictures...
